I have so many thoughts to enter! So, I'll start with a memory that Jessica and I used to laugh about frequently (though she doubted the accuracy of my memory of it): when we were freshmen in college, at Radford, Jessica overheard me making fun of one of her friends and screamed at me for being a jerk. It was one of those record-scratches-then-everything-goes-silent moments, everybody at the party staring at me. I always told Jessica how much I loved her for putting me in my place. She was absolutely committed to kindness and justice. I've never consciously mistreated another human being since that day seventeen years ago--Steven Salaita
