African American Teaching Fellows mission is to recruit, support, develop, and retain a cadre of African American teachers to serve the schools of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, Virginia. Disparities in the % of African American students to % of African American teachers has long been cited as a potential factor in the existence of the achievement gap. In fact, all children benefit when the teaching staff represents the diverse nature of our communities.
